The mission of Hagood Elementary Media Center is to collaborate with the instructional staff to provide materials to support guided and independent learning to enable students to become life-long learners and effective users of information.
Hagood Elementary Media Center supports best practices by operating on apartially flexible schedule. Classes are scheduled to come to the Media Center once weekly for class checkout. Primary classes (K4-2nd) come to the library once a week for a related arts period. During flexible times, the Media Specialist and clerk help students with reader guidance and in book selection. All attempts are made to match readers with books that are age-appropriate as well as at a readability level that best supports student reading improvement. It is during flexible times that individual and small group instruction and learning takes place in use of the online catalog, as well as other resources available in the Media Center, including online resources.
In a collaborative effort, the Media Specialist plans with classroom teachers to present integrated lessons that include the content standards from the established curriculum, library skills and technology standards. It is the philosophy of the Media Specialist that integration of all of the above is in the best interests of students and that the maximum amount of student learning takes place when the instructional team works together to plan for student learning.
The School District of Pickens County Library Policies and Procedures Manual is available upon request in the Media Center.
