Attendance

Students are expected to attend school daily except in the case of illness or special circumstances.

Absences and Excuses

Students must give the school, within three days of the absence, a written excuse from a parent, guardian or health practitioner who is involved in the student's care for ALL absences.

A valid excuse must be dated and must list the date of absence(s), the reason for absence(s), the telephone number, and signature of the parent/guardian.

Students who are absent in excess of 10 days may are required to present, as deemed necessary by school board policy, a written excuse from a licensed/certified health practitioner who is involved in the student's care or be granted an attendance exemption.

Excused absences are defined as:

  • absences for student health concerns excused by parent/guardian or licensed/certified health practitioner who is involved in the student's care;
  • absences for a serious family health concern or death in the family.
  • absences for parental approved, pre-arranged, non-school sponsored trips or activities, including recognized religious holidays. Pre-arranged absences must be approved by the school principal.

Unlawful Absences

Absences without acceptable cause or without parental permission and/or a valid excuse are unlawful. Truancy is not permitted under any circumstances. Students who are absent without parental knowledge or for unacceptable reasons will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action and they and/or their parents may be referred to family court. Any student who fails to bring a valid excuse within 3 days of his/her return to school automatically receives an unlawful absence. Students exceeding 10 unlawful absences will be reported to the attendance supervisor.

Tardies and Early Dismissals

Excessive tardies and early dismissals without acceptable cause will be reported to the attendance supervisor.
